With a very busy travel itinerary on the horizon, we are soaking up this relaxing weekend at home in Amsterdam. This morning we slept in, spent a lazy morning laying in bed drinking coffee and reading (well, I was lazy, Corey went for a run…), and then headed out for brunch at one of our favorite spots, Le Pain Quotidien. The best part of the morning was running into our good friends Carly and Marcus (who are moving to Portland in a few weeks!) – so brunch for two turned into brunch for four, and it was just perfect!
Another plus for this wonderful Saturday is that temperatures are back above freezing (for now), so I took advantage and left my big black puffer at home and wore my favorite leather jacket instead. Paired with a cozy sweater and my wedge sneakers, it was the perfect match for a put-together yet casual weekend look, if I do say so myself! What do you think about wedged sneakers? Would you wear them? They’re all the rage here in Europe!
Hope you all have a wonderful weekend!!

{Made by Mama}

If you’ve been reading this blog for a while, you probably already know that my Mom is a talented designer. I’m lucky that her favorite clients happen to be my sisters and me. She has designed and made me countless things throughout my life – including almost every single one of my high school dance dresses and the most important dress of all, my wedding dress! I’ve never taken the time to showcase the things she’s made me in one place before, but today while reminiscing on some photos I felt compelled to do just that. This is a tiny fraction of the things she’s crafted for me. I look at these photos and feel so much pride for my talented Mama. She is so creative, inspiring and gracious. I miss her so much every day and getting to wear her creations certainly makes me feel closer to her when I’m so far from home!
I hope you enjoy this peek at a few of the beautiful clothes she’s made me in recent years!

{Cozy Up in Fair Isle}

Working in the e-commerce industry means the holiday season is our busiest! Lately the long workdays and nights have got me counting down to our Swiss Christmas! I can’t wait to cozy up by the fire with my honey, a good book and a cup of {spiked} hot chocolate. And if I had it my way, I’d live in nothing but fair isle (so chalet chic!) for a week straight. A few of my favorite fair-isle picks below! What do you think? Do you love or hate this trend?

{J.Crew Wish List}

Did you hear? J. Crew is having a 25% off + free shipping sale this weekend. I can’t imagine a better way to spend a Saturday than with a little online shopping in my PJs with a cappuccino in hand. And if we’re dreaming, I’d scoop up each one of these pretties below! Happy shopping!

{Weekend Snaps!}

After last weekend’s debacle I was really looking forward to a chilled out weekend at home in Amsterdam.
And that’s exactly what I got – complete with the most gorgeous, crisp fall days and bright blue skies. I was a happy girl.
This weekend included lots of long walks with the huz and pup.
Exploring different neighborhoods and discovering new places.
Lots of fresh mint tea.
A trip to the Pure Market for fun trinkets and delicious treats with these two.
All in all it was just the weekend I needed!

While she’s away, she asked me to fill in and blog about my travel style! Hop on over there to check out my post! Katie’s blog is one of my absolute favorites. She has killer style, is drop dead gorgeous (seriously though.) and takes stunning photos. I’m sure you already know her and her beautiful blog – but if not, I know it will now be added to your daily reads! Enjoy!

{Capri, Italy}

The forecast the day before we left for Positano was actually comical. Rain. Every.Single.Day. The forecast for Amsterdam? 75 and sunny every day. Would you believe it? I mean, since when does gloomy Amsterdam have a better forecast than southern Italy?! For a nanosecond I seriously considered booking us a different vacation – I so didn’t want to spend six days in the rain! But we decided to stick it out since the forecast had been so temperamental –changing from sun to rain from hour to hour. Luckily for us we had gorgeous weather… Well, all but one day. And it happened to be the one day we were on a boat. Oops.

We started our  journey to Capri in cloudy, chilly weather. We were able to see all the grottos before it started to pour. From that point on it was a serious torrential downpour the entire time we were on the island. I was not dressed for a storm and was freezing and wet and uncomfortable.  Instead of exploring we opted for a 3 hour lunch instead, then took the first available boat back to Positano. So yeah, we definitely need to go back someday and explore Capri, but we were just happy to have part of the journey be dry and to be able to see the famous Blue Grotto 🙂

A few things that were super fun and unexpected on our boat trip.. Jelly fish! There was one grotto that was FULL of jelly fish – it was so crazy! I had never seen so many in my life. They were a lot smaller than I imagined, and absolutely beautiful. It was thrilling to be so close to them, but safe in our boat! Also, I had no idea you had to get off your boat and get into smaller row boats to actually see the Blue Grotto (and wait in line with a bunch of other boats!). The entrance is so small, you have to duck down into your boat, almost laying flat. Once you get in it’s a rush of darkness and you see nothing but black. Then you turn around and you see it.. That incredible blue water. It truly looks fake, but that is the natural color of the water! There’s some kind of science behind why it is so bright blue. I’m not sure about all that, but what I do know is that it was really gorgeous. I purposefully didn’t enhance the photos at all. That is the real color! I highly recommend you check them out if you ever find yourself on the Amalfi Coast.

{Guest Blogger: Fairy Tales Are True}

Hi Explore.Dream.Discover Friends!
We both share a love for our husbands, travel, fashion, and flat faced dogs.  Liz is away in Seville, so I am hijacking her blog to share with y’all my travel style.

Liz asked me a few questions:
What’s your travel uniform in Europe?
{pixie pantsswagg, infinity scarf}

How do you choose what to pack?
I lay it out before hand.  I start researching the weather.  I mentally prepare for a while in advance, and particularly think about an upcoming trip in my head anytime I happen to be shopping.  I’m a pretty practical girl though – so I know I have to choose versatile pieces.
scarves?  i never go without one i love.  plus they are inexpensive way to change up an existing outfit.
{one scarf – three ways.  as a scarf, a cover up, and draped.  in france, croatia, and russia}

Your favorite shoes for travel?
I love my intyce boots.  I have them in black and cognac.  and i’ve bought them both, twice!
if it is somewhere tropical  I am usually in flip flops.  i know, not so good for my back.
if you anticipate any nights out and need a little height – in my opinion, wedges are the way to go.
or flats.  i have some leopard flats that have been my trusty go-to’s.

Do you stick with dresses or jeans?
I don’t usually pack jeans!   I am generally a dress girl.  although I didn’t realize it until looking back for this post… but i wear a lot of rompers as well!

Is there one clothing item you never travel without?
There’s actually a few… So here’s my top 4 travel essentials.
I rarely packed more than a backpack, but I was not away for more than two weeks at a time, and the whole having a home base in Switzerland helped.

Whether you are backpacking for two months or a few days, you don’t have to sacrifice style.  With versatile pieces, a couple of dresses, pops of color, and a necklace or two you love … you’ll fit it all in your carry-on and look stylish.  it’s been done (:

Thanks for having me Liz!!
I can’t wait to see pictures from Seville!

{Guest Blogger: Sequins & Stripes}

Hi there! It’s Liz from the fashion and style blog, Sequins & Stripes, and I am thrilled to be here today while Liz jets off to Seville for a quick {and dreamy!} getaway! It is currently still winter in Chicago, which I assume is similar to Amsterdam, but Spain is experiencing some 70 degree temps and I have no doubt that Liz will be soaking up every moment. Sounds like a lovely weekend, right? I recently spent a month in Europe and Spain had to be one of the most effortlessly styled countries that I visited. I have no doubt that Liz packed a perfectly assembled {and stylish} suitcase herself, but I thought it would be fun to put together two looks that can easily work for both day and night.

Flared denim can easily be dressed up or down and this silky white tee is a dressy twist on basic jersey. Pair this outfit with bright pink flats for day or pointed heels for night! For accessories, I love the bright colors in the Mango scarf, paired with fun yellow studs and the python clutch. A striped dress is adorable {and comfortable} for day and night, paired with Milly for Sperry Topsiders during the day and the pink flats for night. Add a pop of lipstick when it’s time to go out with your man, and your look goes from day to night in one quick step! Two easy outfits to roam the streets of Seville and take on the town!

A huge thank you to Liz for hosting me today! I can’t wait to hear all about her dreamy escape!

Happy {Sparkly Holiday Party} Weekend!

Well, I made it back! I pushed through my jet lag yesterday so I could try to get back on schedule as this weekend is a big one. Tonight, we have our work holiday party. Not just any holiday party, mind you. Our company rented out the Heineken Music Hall and singer-songwriter Calvin Harris will be there performing! He was most recently featured in Rihanna’s newest single, “We Found Love“, which I am absolutely and positively obsessed with. Needless to say it will be a memorable night! The theme for the evening is “A Touch of Gold”, so I will be rushing to find a last minute sparkly outfit to wear tonight. Wish me luck! And have a wonderful weekend!
